Adolescence - For me, it misses the point

I think Adolescence missed the point.

I fear this opinion will not be met with cheers of agreement, but I am allowed my opinion.

The cleverness of how the series was filmed was amazing (all one shot) - BUT I fear it distracted from the message and at times backed the directing into a corner. For example, the time we spend to and from Wainwrights hardware store in the final episode could have been better used. Maybe we could have re-visited the victims best friend - how is her life affected? Or even the court case. Would they have tired to plea insanity due to radicalisation? I understand the use of tension building and showing the reality of a situation - but was this topic the time to get complicated with artistic filming - I'm torn.

The fact that the victim apparently bullied Jamie with Incel emojis made me uncomfortable. When are we going to stop building victim blaming into a narrative. You can establish a WHY without blaming the victim. It was also some of the only time spent on the victims life herself.

Finally, we didn't see the radicalisation happen, we didn't see what we need to be aware of. We didn't see examples of how Jamie was targeted. We jumped from a weeping child at the beginning to 7 months later and angry misogynist. If this series was to be used as a tool to learn, show us how it happens.

My final fear is that the people who NEED to see this kind of series won't watch it! It is almost too clever!

Artistically exceptional, outstanding acting and a very important topic, but for me it lacked clarity. And ironically, I felt women's voices were sidelined.

Just my opinion!
